With years of hands-on crafting experience, I've revitalized countless garments using simple embellishments. This proven technique adds flair to skirts, dresses, and bags affordably.
Required Materials and Tools
- Garment to update
- Assorted fabric trims (bullion, fringe, tassel, embroidered ribbon, rick-rack, etc.)
- Straight pins
- Sewing machine or needle and thread
- Fray Check
Step-by-Step Guide
- Lay the garment flat on a work surface. Begin with a thicker trim piece at the bottom. Pin it in place, aligning with a seam for a straight, even line. Note: Plan for about a yard of trim per average skirt or dress hem.
- Sew the trim securely by hand or machine. Apply Fray Check to the edges to prevent fraying.
- Layer on additional rows and trim varieties. Mix contrasting colors to craft eye-catching patterns and designs.
Bag Variation: Pin trim with a slight overhang. Secure with fabric-safe glue or hot glue. Once dry, trim excess and seal ends with Fray Check.
