First cloud

Draw a cloud on a piece of felt. I found that they look best when they are somewhat horizontal in shape. Cut out the cloud shape and then place it on another piece of felt to trace the exact shape again, and cut out the second shape. These two equal pieces will make a single cloud..

Sew and fill the clouds

With the needle and thread, carefully sew the shapes along the edges. Leave about a quarter of the edge of the cloud open. Through this opening, fill the cloud with stuffing until the cloud looks fluffy. When the cloud is full, sew the opening closed. Repeat these steps until you have the number of clouds you want in all the colors you want.

Fringe felt for hoop

The embroidery hoop is quite simple, so a gray felt was used to embellish it. Cut a strip of felt about 2" wide down the length of the mobile. Then trim about 1-1/2" to create a decorative fringe.

Light it up

To give your mobile a heavenly touch, use a small kit of multiple strings of LEDs to act as stars. To attach the lights, start about a foot from the top of the strings, and begin wrapping the lights around the hoop to hold it in place. Hit the hoop at the same length so they hang straight. I spaced them out so they would go around the hoop evenly.

Threads of light thread through the clouds

Slide one of the light strands through the top of a cloud and through the bottom of the cloud. Push the cloud up the string of lights and place it where you want. Do this with each of the clouds, and it's okay to do more than one on each strand to add a bit of interest. Once all the clouds are lit, gently twist the string of lights around your finger in a circular motion to make them spiral. This will help keep the clouds in place as well.

Hang from the ceiling

To make the mobile look like it's floating above the crib, use clear wire and a small hook to secure it to the ceiling.

The baby will love it

With this DIY project, you can personalize a mobile in any color to make the mobile as unique and special as your baby. There is no sweeter way for your baby to fall asleep peacefully than under the glow of calm clouds and stars.
