Every year, we eagerly anticipate our holidays but worry about our low-maintenance indoor plants surviving weeks without care. Asking friends or neighbors to water them can be inconvenient—they might forget or overwater, leaving us heartbroken by drooping or dead plants upon return. This year, discover reliable, expert-tested solutions to ensure your green companions stay healthy during your absence.
To automatically water your plants during holidays, try this simple, effective method using everyday items: an empty bottle, its cap, and a needle.
Fill a 1- or 2-liter bottle with water. Poke two or three holes in the cap with the needle, secure it, invert the bottle, and push the cap into the soil. For best results, drill a small hole in the bottle's base to create airflow. Water will drip slowly, keeping plants hydrated for 5 to 15 days.
For an alternative, use a wool wick or thick string. Place one end in a water-filled bowl elevated above the plant, and insert the other end deep into the soil. Capillary action will steadily supply moisture as needed.
