With over a decade of hands-on experience transforming homes through DIY projects, I can tell you that flawless wallpaper installation starts with impeccable preparation. Patience is key—your wallpaper will only adhere properly to a perfectly clean, smooth surface. Thoroughly clean the wall first. If applying over existing wallpaper, strip it away completely using specialized removers. Once bare, inspect for imperfections and apply smoothing filler to level any uneven areas for a professional finish.
To achieve pro-level results in your living room, bedroom, or any space, gather these must-haves: a tape measure, pencil, utility cutter, ruler, pasting brush, wallpaper glue, smoothing brush, seam roller, paperhanger's knife (spatula), and a sponge. These tools ensure precision and durability in every project.
With your toolkit ready, begin by measuring the wall height in your chosen room using a tape measure. Mix the glue per package instructions. Mark the wallpaper's width on the wall with a plumb line using a pencil and level for straight application. Cut strips allowing 6 centimeters extra for trimming. Apply glue to half the strip with the pasting brush, fold it back on itself (book fold), and repeat for the other half. Unfold the top section, align it precisely with the ceiling (or leave a slight margin if uneven), then release the rest against the wall. Smooth from the center outward with the upholstery brush, pushing out air bubbles. Repeat for each strip, overlapping seams as needed. Finish by rolling seams firmly and trimming excess flush with the cutter. This proven method delivers seamless, stunning walls every time!
