Ikea creates furniture with clip-on pieces

Big revolution in the world of DIY, and it is those who have two left hands in the field who will be happy! No more panic in the face of the many bags containing screws and other nuts, the furniture and decoration giant Ikea has decided to make life easier for its millions of customers. Indeed, it will soon no longer be necessary to plan an entire free afternoon to set up your Kallax shelf since a new range will see the light of day, and it is… fully clip-on! The Swedish company has indeed released a line of furniture whose pieces will simply fit together, like a puzzle. Ingenious!

3 minutes instead of 24

The system will be based on a new type of joint called the "wedge dowel", understand "the wooden dowel that wedges", which replaces the traditional screws (and there will be no need for glue either!). Some pieces of wood to be joined will have a ribbed-looking piece to fit into the holes of other pieces. Well, if it's not very clear, the video above will surely help to visualize the process… Ikea representative, Jesper Brodin, explains to the site
Metro :“We are in the process of implementing this system which consists of mounting a piece of furniture by clipping it. I tried it myself with a table that usually takes 24 minutes to assemble, this time it took me 3 minutes to fully clip it ". Effective!

Ikea intends to eventually extend this system to all marketed furniture. Titanic work, therefore, but we are 100% for!
