Silver spray-painted PVC pipes mimic the look of sleek metal in this striking bed frame. Swap out a traditional canvas or flag for a sturdy sail fabric to create an authentic nautical vibe. We've also built a variation without the sail—simply string a line across the top and clip on postcards or photos for an industrial-style headboard.

For a queen-size headboard, measure and cut the PVC pipes using a miter saw or PVC cutter. Here's what you'll need:

Lay out the pieces (Image 1) and dry-fit them with connectors to ensure a perfect fit. Once satisfied, apply PVC primer (the purple solution in Image 2), followed by PVC cement, and press firmly. Use a level to keep everything straight while the joints dry. Note: We used an adapter inside the plumbing floor flange since it was larger than the pipe (Image 3).

Enlist a helper for this step. Ensure all components are level before applying PVC primer everywhere—this key prep step ensures superior paint adhesion.
Spray the headboard with silver hammered paint for a realistic metal effect (black works great too). Let it dry fully, then flip and paint the reverse side.
Cut your sail material to size and hem the edges that require finishing for a clean, durable edge.

Follow the grommet kit instructions to attach them along the sail's edge. Ensure the grommets match your punch tool perfectly.

Thread nautical rope through the grommets and secure the sail to the headboard for that captain's quarters look.
