Gently pull 6 to 8 inches of embroidery floss from the skein and cut it off. Cut this piece in half, then tie one half securely around each end of the skein. Knot tightly, wrap a few more times for a clean finish, and secure with another knot.
Ensure both ends are firmly wrapped, trimming any excess if needed. Slice the skein in the center to yield two individual tassels.
For efficiency, start with an 8-foot length of rope, folded in half. Wrap it around your crown form, securing with double-sided tape. Cover the entire shape evenly, adding extra twine to thinner spots for texture and full coverage. Knot securely at the back and trim excess.
Cut short pieces of twine to tie each tassel to the crown. Knot around the tassel's top, then wrap the excess around the form to anchor it firmly.
