Halloween ranks as one of my top holidays. As a DIY decorator with over a decade of experience crafting spooky setups, I adore the candy indulgence and turning our home into a haunted spectacle—think massive, hairy spider webs everywhere.
Store-bought decorations add up fast, but I've perfected a budget-free hack: stunning cobwebs from trash bags. Realistic, effortless, and ready in minutes.

They look incredibly eerie on windows—pair with plastic spiders for extra chills. One trash bag yields two webs, so grab just one or two for your project.

- 2 garbage bags
- 1 gold marker
- Masking tape
- Pair of scissors

1. Cut both sides and bottom of each garbage bag to form rectangles. Stack them to cut both simultaneously.
2. Fold rectangles into triangles and trim excess for perfect squares.
3. Fold sheets into a triangle, then refold into a smaller triangle.
4. Fold again into a cone shape, leaving excess at the base.
5. Secure the open edge with masking tape—it removes cleanly.
6. Trim the base excess into a curved edge mimicking a spider web's outer rim.
7. Draw the web pattern with gold marker, following the half-moon curve with thick, curved lines.

8. Cut along the lines and discard scraps.
9. Unfold and separate for two complete cobwebs.
Your trash bag cobwebs are ready—lifelike and Halloween-perfect!
Hang with clear tape on walls or windows. Kids and family will be thrilled; I've seen it wow guests year after year.
- Vary sizes for layered displays on walls or windows.
- Add drawn or cardstock spiders for authenticity.
- Opt for thin, textured bags; shiny ones slip during cutting.
