Spring work in the vegetable garden

March usually heralds the arrival of spring. The milder climate, the temperature is milder and the weather lends itself wonderfully to gardening. In the spring, what work should be scheduled in the vegetable garden?

Spring:what to do in the vegetable garden?

Want to get the most out of your freshly picked fruits and vegetables from your vegetable garden next summer? It is from spring that you have to start taking care of your vegetable garden, if you want it to deliver its most beautiful vegetables to us in the summer period.

So if before the arrival of winter you haven't had time to prepare the ground, spring is the ideal time to do it, since with the rise in temperatures, the ground is less hard and it will therefore be easier to plow and hoe. Otherwise, you must also provide furnishings. This operation is really very useful, as well as necessary if you want your vegetables to develop well, particularly in the case of packed soil. However, avoid mixing the different layers of soil. Digging or upholstering is usually associated with fertilization.

Spring:what vegetables to plant?

As soon as spring arrives, once the soil has been prepared, you can already plant a few aromatic herbs such as dill, parsley, chervil, coriander, thyme or even tarragon. You can group them on a small flower bed, in a pot, but also in a container.

It is also the ideal time for sowing bulb and tuber vegetables, to name only garlic, asparagus, fennel, potatoes, onions, leeks, spring onions, chives, the green onion, without forgetting the radishes. But neglected for several years, old vegetables are gradually coming back to the fore, and many of them are very easy to maintain. Let yourself be tempted by crosnes from Japan, or Jerusalem artichokes. As far as leafy vegetables are concerned, the months of March and April are recommended to start planting cabbage or spinach.

Spring:what about the orchard?

It is difficult to talk about the work to be done in the vegetable garden, without devoting a few lines to the orchard. So, if you are the proud owner of an orchard, you can start cleaning the soil of your fruit trees by hoeing and tilling the soil around it.

As the buds are not yet blooming, take the opportunity to cover the trunks of peach, apple, mango, lemon and other trees with whitewash. This product will thus avoid the formation of foam on the sands and remains very effective in keeping away certain insects. And as soon as the weather starts to get better, you can schedule your grafts and cuttings.
