With new iPads and Android tablets launching frequently, older models often end up discarded or sold cheaply on eBay and Amazon. You might even have one gathering dust at home. Instead of buying an expensive digital photo frame, repurpose that old tablet to display your family photos on any monitor—with remote control capabilities via cloud services.
This setup requires minimal hardware if you have an old tablet and monitor. The key is a reliable app that supports cloud integration for seamless remote updates.
Cable Matters 2-Pack Micro HDMI to HDMI Adapter (HDMI to Micro HDMI Adapter) 6-Inch Buy Now on Amazon $8.99
Install Dayframe on your tablet first. Connect the mini-HDMI end of the adapter to your tablet's port. Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the adapter and the other into your monitor.
As shown, this adapter works with micro or mini ports.

Your monitor will now mirror the tablet screen.

Launch Dayframe and link it to your cloud service like Dropbox. You can skip initial setup and add sources later.

Tap the "+" next to "Photos" under your cloud account to add folders.

First, upload your photos to a dedicated folder in Dropbox.
Create a specific folder in Dropbox for your slideshow photos.
Upload images here—10 family photos in my case.

Dayframe automatically detects and lists them. Access from anywhere to update your display.
Tap the menu on Dayframe's main screen, select "Manage Photostreams," then "Slideshow."

Photos stream from cloud to tablet to monitor. Add or remove images remotely—changes reflect instantly.

This one-time setup beats traditional frames requiring USB swaps. Update from your phone, office, or anywhere.
