Dining chairs face daily wear, so select durable flat-weave rugs in neutral tones that hide dirt and scuffs. Sandy beige, blue-gray, gray-green, gray, and navy complement most décors. Textured rugs without patterns are simplest to align perfectly. For stripes, choose wider ones for easier matching.
Use a drill or screwdriver to detach the seat cushion from the chair frame. Carefully strip away the old fabric with a utility knife and needle-nose pliers.
Place the cushion on the rug and trace its outline with chalk, adding 2½ inches on all sides for edge wrapping. Cut precisely along the line using dressmaker's shears.
Unfold the batting and cut it 2 inches larger than the cushion. Center it over the top, stretch taut, and staple to the underside using a staple gun with 3/8-inch staples.
With a helper, stretch the rug tightly over the cushioned seat and staple securely to the underside.
