As experienced DIY enthusiasts who've crafted countless kid-friendly Halloween costumes, we love this cozy 'Cup of Hot Chocolate' design. It's simple, uses affordable materials, and delights at parties. Follow these tested steps for perfect results.

Use a knife to cut the bottom of the basket along the perforations where the plastic is thinner than the solid base. Measure the height from below the rim and cut black construction paper to match.

Wrap the black cardstock around the basket and secure it with tape or a glue gun.

Cut a thin strip of black construction paper and attach it to the top edge with a glue gun.

Draw a semicircle on cardboard or white construction paper and cut it out.

Cover the handle with black construction paper and attach it to the cup using glue or tape.

Cut the batting into 5-inch squares.

Cut white construction paper into 4-inch strips, then cut across the width into equal pieces. Roll each into a tube and staple the ends. Wrap a piece of batting around the paper tube.

Tuck the batting ends into the tube and secure with tape or hot glue.

Cut the taffeta fabric in half lengthwise. Glue it along the inside edge of the basket. For a frothy look, bundle and glue the fabric loosely to cover the edge. Position the marshmallows on the fabric and basket with tape or glue.

Add a fun pattern if desired—we used a circle cutter for about 30 polka dots on ours.
