Transform Metal Washers into Custom DIY Jewelry: Necklaces, Earrings & More

Metal washers are versatile and budget-friendly—often costing just pennies each in various sizes. Create bold statement necklaces with large ones or delicate designs with smaller washers. Layer small washers for charm bracelets, or make lightweight earrings perfect for summer.

Choose from endless paper options to personalize your pieces. Origami paper yields intricate patterns, while scrapbook sheets allow vibrant mixes. Packing paper, greeting cards, magazine clippings, and even newspaper add unique flair.

This project is wallet-friendly, letting you craft jewelry for every outfit. For professional results, use color copies on laser-printed paper.

Materials and Tools:

large washer
origami or other decorative paper
scissors
craft cutter
glue stick
Judikins Diamond Glaze
pencil
1 yard leather cord
large wooden bead
leather clasp
flat-nose pliers

Steps:

1. Print a color copy on origami or decorative paper using a laser printer (essential to prevent ink bleeding under the glaze).

2. Position the washer over your chosen design, trace it, then cut the inner circle with a craft knife and the outer edge with scissors.

3. Place the washer smooth side down and adhere the paper to the textured side using a glue stick.

4. Avoid shaking the Diamond Glaze to prevent bubbles. Apply to the top, spread evenly with a wooden skewer, covering fully. Dry for 24 hours.

5. For the necklace, cut cord to neck length plus 2 inches. Fold in half, thread the folded end through the washer's center, then pull loose ends through the loop.

6. Thread both cord ends through the wooden bead and slide it down to secure against the washer.

7. Trim ends to fit, then attach the leather clasp using flat-nose pliers.

Experiment with washer sizes for earrings, bracelets, and additional necklaces. Get creative and enjoy the process!
