Tie-dye designs, iconic since the 1960s, have evolved from t-shirts to tote bags, scarves, bedding, and even shoes. As experienced crafter Melissa Caughey, I teamed up with my daughter this summer to customize $5 white canvas sneakers from our local craft store. It was a delightful rainy-day project that sparked creativity—we're already planning to repeat it with friends. These shoes became her personal masterpiece.

For the tie-dye blend, dip the straw's end into the top inch of rubbing alcohol. Cover the top with your finger, hover over the design, and release to let droplets mix the colors. Apply multiple times for your perfect blended look.
