Gardenia flowers captivate with their intoxicating fragrance, often inspiring fine perfumes. Yet their delicate petals wilt and discolor quickly. Craft this realistic DIY paper gardenia as a timeless alternative, drawing from years of paper flower expertise for professional results.

Download and print the gardenia petals PDF on white or cream paper, and the leaf template on green paper. Cut out the flower petals. Use your scissors' edge to crimp each petal on flowers #1 and #2, both vertically and horizontally (two crimps per petal).

Layer the No. 1 petals into a cone shape, overlapping in the same direction to create a pinwheel effect. Roll the cone between your fingers several times to secure its form.

Rotate the cone and use the edge of your fingernail to flatten the bottom five corners, forming a rounded base.

Glue the cone to the center of flower #2.

Twist the petals of flower #2 around the inner cone, following the petal direction and shape.

Flip the assembly and flatten the bottom corners with your fingernail edge for a more circular shape.

Use the scissors' edge to curl petals 3 through 6.

Curl each petal edge or angle it oppositely for an organic look. Gardenia petals are naturally uneven—embrace variety for realism.

Glue petals #3 and #4 together, aligning them evenly. Repeat with petals #5 and #6.

Glue the matched #3/#4 pair onto #5/#6, rotating to reveal all 12 petal tips.

Center and glue the petal cone onto the stacked petals.

Gently open cone No. 2 and nest the stacked petals inside.

Fold the leaf in half and score both edges with the scissors.

Flip the gardenia and glue the leaf to the back, fold facing you.

For a single gardenia, attach a hair clip, mini clothespin, flower magnet, or ribbon to the back.

For a stemmed version, cut a round green circle and slit it from one side to the center.

Form a coil at the end of floral wire and slide it through the slit in the paper circle.

Glue the paper disk to the gardenia's back.

Starting at the base, wrap floral tape around the wire, stretching gently to activate the adhesive.

Use your paper gardenias to elevate party decor or home accents.

These metallic-sculpted petals endure as cherished keepsakes atop special gifts.
