As a renter or homeowner facing an outdated fridge, transforming it doesn't have to mean permanent changes. With years of hands-on DIY projects under my belt, I've found removable wallpaper to be a game-changer for quick, reversible updates that landlords approve.

When selecting wallpaper, opt for detachable or temporary varieties – essential for easy removal upon moving. Choose a simple pattern for precise alignment and a polished look.
Start by thoroughly wiping down the fridge's exterior. A clean, smooth surface ensures even adhesion and professional results.

Removable wallpaper typically comes in rolls, so apply it horizontally. Measure the fridge front and cut a piece 7-8 inches longer for ample overhang.

Peel off the backing from your first sheet. Position it with a 3-4 inch overhang on the top and both sides. Secure the center to the fridge top first, smoothing out bubbles for a wrinkle-free start.

Use a sharp utility knife to carefully slice from the top edge down to the left door corner. Fold the flap over the side and secure it. Repeat on the right. Fold the top overhang onto the door, trimming excess like gift-wrapping. Secure side tabs similarly.

For front-mounted handles, remove them first and reattach after. Side handles require precise cuts around them with your utility knife.

This project demands patience – an extra pair of hands helps – but delivers stunning results, banishing stains, dents, and rust. Best of all, it peels off cleanly for move-out. See more of this apartment transformation >>
