DIY Beach Wreath: Upcycle a Bike Rim with Coral Fans and Starfish

This stunning beach-inspired wreath comes together quickly and affordably. We transformed a reclaimed bicycle rim into a coastal masterpiece using coral fans and starfish. Unleash your creativity—embellish it with your favorite seaside finds.

Materials and Tools:

Wrench
Glue gun
Sewing needle
Garden shears and cutters
Reclaimed bike rim
Coral fans (10 to 12)
Large starfish (3)
Sticky spray
Blue and silver spray paint
Silver and clear glitter
Transparent thread

Clean the Rim

Unbolt the sprocket group, remove the protruding bolts, and leave the hub intact. Thoroughly clean the bicycle rim.

Paint the Rim

Spray paint the bike rim blue.

Paint and Glitter the Coral

Spray the coral fans silver and let dry. Apply sticky spray, then generously sprinkle with silver glitter. Tip: Use plenty of glitter, as some will flake off during handling.

Prepare and Add Coral

Use scissors or garden shears to trim the bottoms of the coral fans for fitting under the sprockets. Shape the fans to create your desired design. (Re-spray lightly if needed for brightness.)

Secure the Coral

Position the coral fans in place, then gently rotate the rim and apply hot glue to the bottoms (back of the sprockets) to hold them securely.

Add Starfish

Spray the starfish with sticky spray, sprinkle with clear glitter, and glue them atop the coral fans.

Finalize Starfish Placement

Position all three starfish and glue from below. For extra security, use a sewing needle and transparent thread to stitch the starfish and coral to the back of the spokes.
