As a seasoned home decor expert with years of hands-on experience crafting custom window treatments, I love this budget-friendly project. Drop cloth delivers a subtle stiffness for elegant draping, while grommets make installation sewing-free for professional results.

From cardstock, cut a 15" x 16-1/2" rectangle and divide it diagonally into two triangles for your chevron template.

Align the two 16-1/2” edges and pin them together to form half the chevron design.

Lay the drop cloth on a smooth, protected surface. Position the template pointing toward the center, 12 inches from the top. Apply painter's tape just outside the top and bottom edges. Flip the template and repeat to complete a full row of zigzags.

Begin the next row 15 inches below the first. Align the template 2 inches above your bottom line to locate the first top line, then continue. Repeat for three full sets of zigzags.

Confirm tape is secure and the surface below is protected. Optionally, thin paint slightly with water for smoother application. Use a foam roller to paint only within the three zigzag sets, skipping the thinnest rows in between.

Peel off all tape and let the canvas dry fully. Repeat the entire process on the second panel.

Fold the top edge down 6 inches and press firmly with a hot iron to form the hem for grommets.

Using the grommet kit's template, mark eight circles: 1-1/2" from the top of the fold and spaced 6-1/4" apart, with first and last 1 inch from edges. Use an even number for symmetry.

Carefully cut out the marked circles, staying precisely inside the lines.

Place the clamp side at the back and smooth side at the front, centered over each hole. Press firmly to secure. Repeat for all eight grommets on both panels.
Hang your curtains and enjoy the beautiful light filtering through the bold chevron pattern. Guests won't believe these pro-looking shades started as simple drop cloth.
