Start by priming the wall with two coats of off-white latex paint and let it dry completely. Using a pencil and ruler, mark out squares to mimic stone blocks. Opt for sizes suited to your space, though 8" by 16" replicates standard limestone blocks accurately.

To infuse warmth, create a limestone-colored latex wash by mixing small amounts of brown and yellow paint, diluted with water to a thin soup consistency. Brush it on freely in all directions, then rub it into the surface with a cloth for an organic, imperfect look.

Achieve realistic shadows with three shades: brown for deep shadows, off-white for mid-tones, and white for highlights. Dilute each with water to a watercolor consistency. Simulate light from one side by applying darker color on the left, mid-tone in the center, and lightest on the right. Dab and rub freely to blend into the surface.
Next, thin a taupe and white mixture with water. Use a long-bristle brush to paint over the pencil lines, emphasizing mortar shadows between blocks for authentic dimension.

Mix a glaze using glazing liquid, mineral spirits, and tints like raw umber and burnt sienna. Brush it on and rub thoroughly to impart subtle texture and a weathered patina, elevating your faux limestone to professional quality.
