As home design expert Brian Patrick Flynn shows, we've reimagined a vintage flea market dresser into a multifunctional nightstand and pet bed. We removed the bottom two drawers, lined the cavity with beadboard, painted it a vibrant color, and added a plush cushion—creating a perfect haven for small dogs or cats.

Remove the two bottom drawers from the dresser.

Use a screwdriver or drill to remove the center brace. Next, use a reciprocating saw to remove the horizontal fascia.

Use a tape measure to determine the height, width, and depth of the dresser cavity.

Cut plywood to 3/4" shorter than the inside length and width, then place it at the bottom. The smaller size provides room for the plywood brace.
If you lack a circular saw, most home improvement stores can cut the plywood for a small fee.

Use a screwdriver to remove all existing hardware.

Smooth any rough areas on the dresser with sandpaper or a sanding block. Wipe away dust with a damp cloth.

Cut a 4' x 8' beadboard sheet to fit the interior height and width using a circular saw. Sand rough edges, position the strips, and secure with a nail gun or screws.

Protect your workspace floor with a drop cloth. Shake and stir the primer, then pour it into the HVLP sprayer container.

Spray an even coat of primer over all dresser surfaces. Allow it to dry fully.

Clean and rinse the HVLP sprayer. Load your finish color and apply two coats, waiting 2-3 hours between them for drying.
