Octagon tables were a hot trend 40 years ago and are now thrift-store steals at garage sales and flea markets. We refreshed this one by removing the door, applying a fresh coat of paint, and lining the interior with soft fabric and a plush cushion to create the perfect pet bed.
Use a screwdriver or drill to remove the hinges from the doors and/or drawers. Fully detach the doors and drawers, then set them aside.
Use a screwdriver or drill to remove any fasteners or stops from magnetized doors and/or drawers.
After removing hinges, fasteners, and stops, apply wood filler to screw holes with a putty knife. Let it dry, then smooth the surface with sandpaper or a sanding block. Wipe away dust with a damp cloth.
Protect your work surface with a drop cloth. Shake the primer well, pour it into your HVLP sprayer container, and apply an even coat to all table surfaces.
If upholstering the interior, prime only the exterior—the batting and fabric will cover the inside.
Once primer is dry, clean the sprayer, reload, and apply two coats of your finish color.
Wait 2-3 hours between the first and second coat for optimal drying.
Measure the interior dimensions with a tape measure, then cut batting and fabric to fit precisely.
After the finish coat dries fully, spray adhesive inside the table. Press batting into place snugly and staple edges. Position fabric over batting and secure with a staple gun.
Use an upholstery awl to position nailheads, then tap them in with a rubber mallet to cover staples elegantly.
Place a cozy pillow or cushion at the bottom for your pet's comfort.
