Transform two old kitchen cabinets—typically mounted above a refrigerator—into a sturdy entryway bench with built-in shoe storage. This proven upcycling project, refined through hands-on experience, adds function and charm to your home.

Sand thoroughly, prime, and paint for a durable finish. Allow full drying time between coats to ensure longevity.

Cut 4x4 or 2x4 lumber into blocks flush with the cabinet tops for a level bench surface. Bond securely to the top corners with wood glue, keeping them aligned with the edges.

Cut 4x4 lumber into eight 3-4 inch pieces for legs. (Pre-cut bow legs work well too.) Sand, stain, and seal with two coats of lacquer—or paint to suit your style.

Glue each foot under the corners and secure from inside the cabinet with at least three screws per foot for rock-solid stability.
Align the cabinets side by side, level them, and fine-tune height by sanding the feet as needed.
Measure the cabinet top, adding 2 inches to front and sides for an overhang. Cut with a circular saw for a custom fit.

Sand edges smooth and apply your preferred finish for protection and beauty.
Glue the corner supports, center the top squarely, and fasten from inside with screws short enough to avoid piercing the surface.
