Measure the height from the inside bottom of the spool to the inside top (Image 1). Cut four 2x4 pieces to fit snugly inside the wooden spool. Position the 2x4s near the edges and screw them securely in place (Image 2).

To create a smooth top surface, apply masking tape over any nuts and bolts on the spool's bottom (Image 1). Place foam on top, measure, and cut to fit (we used two half-circles). Secure with hot glue (Image 2).

Lay batting over the top and wrap it around the sides (Image 1). Cut to size with extra for tucking under. Flip the spool and staple the batting to the bottom and sides (all 2x4s). Hammer staples flush if needed, trim excess, and glue edges (Image 2).

Measure the spool from top to bottom. Cut blanket fabric to that height, using the finished edge as the bottom. Pin sides in place to secure.

Place the ottoman on the remaining blanket and trace the top circle. Leave extra fabric for seaming.

Use a whip stitch to join the side and top edges of the blanket cover.

Attach four furniture pads to the bottom (Image 1). Your new piece doubles as an ottoman, side table, or extra seat (Image 2).
