With years of hands-on DIY experience, I've perfected this timeless cottage-style sisal rope rug. It's quick and budget-friendly: a 2' x 3' rug uses 100 feet of rope (about $10) plus a $5 non-slip mat.
Unroll the sisal rope and trim any loose threads at the end for a clean start.
Place the rope end in the center of the non-slip mat. Apply hot glue to fix it in place, holding for a minute as it sets. Work over poster board to catch drips, as glue may seep through the mat.
Tightly coil the rope, applying hot glue underneath each loop to secure it to the mat. For the first few coils, hold firmly and squeeze to keep tight while the glue dries. The coil will soon hold its shape. Continue until the rope is fully coiled.
Carefully cut away any extra non-slip mat around the rug's edges for a neat finish.
Flip the rug over with the poster board facing up. Peel or tear off excess board, revealing the non-slip mat underneath.
