As a crafting enthusiast with years of upcycling experience, I've transformed countless old t-shirts into wearable art. These boot socks are a perfect zero-waste project—fun, simple, and fully customizable with buttons, lace, sequins, or bows using just your sewing basics. Follow these proven steps for four distinct styles that stay snug over boots and add personality to any outfit.

Grab 2-4 buttons, needle, and thread. Cut the sleeves just below the armpit curve. The existing hem becomes your sock top.

Sew buttons securely to the top edge. Repeat for each sock.

Done! Pull over your calf, slip over boots, and enjoy the custom look.

From scrap fabric, cut two 3" x 5" and two 2" x 3" rectangles.

Fold each lengthwise, right sides together, and sew the long edge.

Use a safety pin to turn right-side out, so seam is inside. Press with seam at back center. For the larger tube, fold ends to center back, overlap slightly, and sew down the middle.

Cut sleeves just below armpit curve on both sides.

Lay shorter tube over bow center, seam down. Wrap and fold tightly around.

Pin bow strap's raw edge inside sock top (old hem). Sew securely with straight stitch around center and top edge. Repeat for second sock.

Select stretchy trim (lace, sequins, ribbon—test by pulling). Cut sleeves below armpit.

Measure upper calf, subtract 1". Cut two trim strips to that length.

Pin one end to sleeve back seam, 1" from hem. Stretch across and pin other end opposite.

Zigzag stitch while stretching trim evenly. For wide trim, stitch top and bottom. Repeat for second sock.

Need 1/4" elastic and lace/ruffle trim. Cut sleeves below armpit.

Measure calf top, add 7-8". Cut two lace strips that length.

Cut elastic to sleeve hem circumference.

Pin elastic to lace bottom at edges and center.

Zigzag elastic into lace, stretching to match length. Catch elastic securely.

Pin lace edge to sleeve back seam, 1" from hem. Stretch across and pin opposite.

Zigzag attach while stretching. Add buttons or extra sequins for flair.

Slide on and style your boots!
