Love the rugged denim look? Incorporate it into your handmade holiday decorations with this charming patchwork denim Christmas stocking. As an experienced crafter specializing in upcycled projects, I've perfected this technique for a sturdy, personalized heirloom.

This stocking measures 19" tall x 12" wide. For a smaller size, scale the pattern when printing (e.g., 70%, 80%, 90%). Download and print the stocking pattern.

Cut out the cotton fabric pieces using the downloadable patterns: two mirror-image pieces each for the front and back. Cut the stocking shapes from denim fabric as well.

Place the front and back cotton pieces on a protected surface. Cut old denim pants (or scraps) into various shapes and sizes. Apply fabric glue to the back of each patch and arrange them over the cotton stocking fronts and backs, fully covering the surface. It's fine if patches extend beyond the edges.

Allow the glue to cure fully, which takes at least 4-8 hours.

Carefully trim any overhanging denim patches flush with the stocking edges.

Place the front and back pieces right sides together, aligning all edges. Pin and sew around the sides, leaving the top open. Trim seam allowances and turn right side out.

Fold the stocking loop piece in half, right sides together. Pin, sew, and use a safety pin to turn it right side out; press flat. Fold the loop in half to match raw edges.

Pin the raw edges of the loop to the top back edge of the stocking exterior. Sew 1/8" from the edge to secure.

Place lining pieces right sides together. Pin around edges, leaving a 5" opening on one side seam; do not sew the top. Stitch and press seams.

Slide the lining over the exterior (right sides together), matching seams. Pin and sew around the top edge. Turn right side out through the lining opening, then stitch the opening closed.

Push the lining into the stocking. Your patchwork denim Christmas stocking is complete and ready to hang!
