By using a stencil with gold fabric paint and glitter accents, you can create a sophisticated, bohemian look.
The final stockings measure 18"h x 13"w (not including the dangling tassels). For a smaller stocking, simply scale the pattern when printing to your desired size (70%, 80%, 90%, etc.). Download and print the pattern.
Cut out your fabric using the pattern pieces. Cut two mirror images for the outside of the sock, two mirror images for the lining, one sock loop piece, and one shaded accent piece for the toe and heel.
Place the toe and heel accent pieces on the top right of one of the exterior storage pieces. Pin in place and sew around the edges to secure.
Use some masking tape to affix the template to the top of the stocking in the desired location. Be sure to do this on a surface that is easy to paint (place foil under the fabric to protect the surface below).
Use a sponge brush to gently apply the paint to your stencil. Make sure you don't shift the stocking when you're doing this, so you have nice clean paint lines.
Repeat the stencil painting process in other desired locations, and then allow the paint to dry.
Place two outer sock pieces together on the right and pin. Leave the top edge of the stocking unnailed as well as the bottom of the foot. Sew along the pinned lines.
Trim the seam allowance around the curves where the accent fabric sits to remove excess bulk.
If you want to hang fringe along the bottom of your stocking, cut a piece the same size as the sole of the foot of the stocking. Slide the fringe into the sock, matching the top of the fringe to the bottom raw edge of the foot.
Pin the sole of the stocking to close the top edge of the fringe in the middle. Sew it closed and then set it aside.
If you also want a dangling tassel on top of the stocking, simply lay the trimmed tassel nice and flat. Bring one of the tassel strings to the top.
Start wrapping the edge of the tassel in a tight circle. Continue doing this until your tassel is the desired width of your choice. Don't forget to leave one of those tassel chains sticking up.
When you reach the desired width, cut and pin in place.
Use a needle and thread to sew the top of the tassel by going back and forth through the center of the tassel a few times. If you want, you can also slide the cut end of the tassel down.
Repeat so you have two tassels hanging down.
Turn the sock to the right and attach the top tassel strings to the top back edge of your sock. Sew across the tassel chain to secure it in place.
Fold the stocking loop down the middle on the right side together and pin along the long side. Sew the bow closed, turn it to the right, and then press it up.
Bring the raw edges together to create a loop. Pin in place and sew a small line over the edges to secure.
Place the bow along the top back edge on the right side of one of your lining pieces, matching the raw edges. Position it approximately 3" from the top edge. Pin and sew.
Place the two siding pieces together on the right and pin around the side edges, leaving the top open. Also leave a 5” opening along the back edge for turning. Sew it together.
With the outer sock facing out, and the liner facing out, slide the liner over the outer sock matching all edges. They should be on the right side touching. Pin around the top and sew.
Turn the stocking right side out and sew the opening in the lining closed. Press the inner lining of the stocking and press. Fold down the top edge of your stocking so the loop is exposed along the top. And you're done!
