As a seasoned crafter with years of experience in custom holiday decor, I've perfected this henna-inspired technique using a gold fabric paint stencil and glitter accents for a sophisticated bohemian vibe that elevates any mantel.

The finished stockings measure 18" tall x 13" wide (excluding tassels). For a smaller size, scale the pattern at 70%, 80%, or 90% when printing. Download and print the pattern to get started.

Cut two mirror-image pieces for the exterior, two for the lining, one loop piece, and one shaded accent for the toe and heel.

Position the toe and heel accents on the upper right of one exterior piece. Pin and sew around the edges to secure firmly.

Tape the stencil to the stocking's top in your chosen spot. Work on a paint-friendly surface—use foil underneath to protect it.

Apply gold paint gently with a sponge brush. Hold the stocking steady for crisp, clean lines every time.

Repeat stenciling as desired in other spots, then allow full drying for a flawless finish.

Place the two exterior pieces right sides together and pin, leaving the top edge and foot bottom open. Sew along pinned lines.

Trim seam allowances around curves near accents to reduce bulk and ensure smooth shaping.

For fringe along the foot bottom, cut a piece matching the sole size. Insert fringe with tops aligned to the raw edge.

Pin the sole closed over the fringe top edge, sew shut, and set aside.

Lay trimmed tassel fringe flat. Position one string at the top.

Wrap the edge tightly in a circle until reaching desired width, leaving one string extended.

Cut and pin once at width.

Thread a needle through the center multiple times to secure. Tuck cut ends if desired.

Make a matching second tassel.

Turn exterior right side out. Sew tassel strings to the back top edge securely.

Fold loop piece right sides together lengthwise, sew long edge, turn right side out, and press.

Bring raw edges together to shape loop, pin, and sew across edges.

Pin loop to top back edge of one lining piece, raw edges aligned, about 3" from heel. Sew in place.

Place lining pieces right sides together, pin sides leaving top open and 5" back opening for turning. Sew seams.

Slide lining over exterior (both right sides out), align edges, pin top, and sew.

Turn right side out through lining opening, sew it closed, press seams, fold cuff to reveal loop. Your heirloom is ready!
