As a seasoned crafter with years of experience creating holiday heirlooms, I love this straightforward project. Use burlap or canvas fabric for that authentic rustic vibe on your Christmas stocking.

Start with our free downloadable stocking pattern, 1/2 yard burlap or canvas fabric, 1/2 yard cotton for lining, chalkboard contact paper or vinyl, plus sewing essentials: pins, scissors, thread, and machine.

Follow the stocking pattern to cut two outer fabric pieces, two lining pieces, and one loop piece for hanging. From chalkboard material, cut an accent no wider than the stocking's front.

For contact paper, peel off the backing and adhere to one outer stocking piece's front, then stitch edges to secure. With vinyl, pin and sew around using a roller foot.

Sew raw edges of the loop piece with a zigzag stitch. Fold to form a loop, position raw ends at the top back edge of one outer piece, pin, and baste in place.

Place outer pieces right sides together, sew sides and bottom (leave top open). Turn right side out, gently pushing out curves with your fingers.

Right sides together, sew lining pieces along sides and bottom, leaving a 4-5" opening at the bottom. Do not turn yet.

Slip lining over outer stocking (right sides together), align seams at top, and sew around the top edge. Turn right side out through lining opening, close it, tuck lining inside, and smooth curves.

This charming burlap Christmas stocking is mantel-ready. Personalize the chalkboard panel yearly with names or messages—a timeless family tradition.
